Family-School Partnership Compact

School Commitment to Student Success

Truman Middle College is committed to providing a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive learning environment.

  • All teachers are highly qualified
  • Curriculum is aligned to Common Core State Standards
  • Courses are designed using updated curriculum maps to reflect current educational practices
  • Instruction is provided to help students meet state academic achievement standards

Parent Communication & Conferences

The school will maintain open communication with families about student progress.

  • Parent-teacher conferences will be held twice a year (Fall and Spring)
  • This compact will be reviewed during conferences
  • Parents can access grades and attendance anytime through the PowerSchool Parent Portal
  • Training and assistance for using the Parent Portal are available during school hours (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Progress reports will be shared every 5 weeks, along with updates from teachers

Access to Teachers & Staff

Parents are encouraged to stay connected with school staff.

  • Meetings can be scheduled by calling the main office: 773-907-4840
  • Teachers are generally available: 
    • Before school: 8:00 – 8:30 AM
    • During prep periods
    • After school: 3:30 – 4:00 PM
    • Or by appointment

Parent Involvement Opportunities

Parents are valued partners and are encouraged to participate in school activities.

  • Volunteer opportunities are available after completing required paperwork
  • Opportunities may include: 
    • Classroom support
    • School events (chaperones or ushers)
    • Office assistance
    • Hallway monitoring
  • Parents may also participate in school advisory groups and decision-making committees

Parent Responsibilities

As a parent/guardian, I will support my child’s learning by:

  • Signing up for the Parent Portal to monitor attendance and grades
  • Ensuring homework is completed
  • Attending conferences, meetings, and school events
  • Staying informed by reading all school communications
  • Supporting positive use of my child’s time outside of school
  • Participating in decisions related to my child’s education
  • Volunteering when possible
  • Serving on school committees or advisory groups when able

Student Responsibilities

Students share responsibility for their academic success by:

  • Completing homework daily and asking for help when needed
  • Attending school every day and arriving on time
  • Taking responsibility for their actions
  • Providing notes for absences when required
  • Reading at least 30 minutes daily outside of school
  • Sharing all school communications with parents/guardians
