School Day Expectations

  • The total school day is 416 minutes.
  • Instructional time includes:
  • Monday–Thursday: 360 minutes of instruction
  • Friday: 188 minutes of instruction
  • Students follow an A/B schedule on Fridays.
  • Students are expected to attend the full school day unless they are officially enrolled in the School-to-Work program with completed paperwork.

Attendance Monitoring

Parents/guardians of absent students will receive daily notification through the Swift K‑12 automated messaging system.

Reporting Absences

  • For any absence or early dismissal, students must submit proper documentation to the attendance coordinator or school administration.
  • A parent or guardian may call the school to report a single-day absence.
  • For multiple-day absences, documentation must be provided upon the student’s return.
  • All documents are verified by school personnel before determining whether an absence is excused.

Accepted Documentation Sources

TMC accepts documentation from:

  • Doctors or hospitals
  • Caseworkers
  • Judges
  • Funeral directors
  • Other certified service providers

Students are strongly encouraged to schedule appointments (doctor, WIC, DHS, etc.) after school, on Fridays, or Saturdays to minimize absences.

Excused Absences

Documentation is required for all excused absences. Approved reasons include:

  • Court appearance
  • Death of a family member
  • Verified medical illness (doctor or hospital documentation)
  • Illness at home
    • Limit: Only five handwritten parent/guardian notes per semester
  • Recognized religious holidays
  • Family emergency

Important Guidelines

Absence documentation must be submitted within 30 days of returning to school.

  • Exceptions require administrative approval.
  • False documentation will result in:
  • A required parent/guardian conference
  • The absence being marked as unexcused
  • Possible disciplinary actions for repeated violations
  • Absences without valid documentation will be marked unexcused.

Unexcused Absence Notifications

TMC will notify students and parents/guardians in writing when a student reaches:

  • 5 unexcused absences
  • 10 unexcused absences
  • 15 unexcused absences

Additional interventions may be implemented as necessary.
